In December 2022, Ginkgo acquired its first brownfield site in Italy. Located in the Porta al Prato district of Florence, 15 minutes from the city centre, the former Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane ‘Officine Grandi Riparazioni’ depot and train repair workshop covers an area of 8 hectares.
Ideally located near the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino opera house and the Stazione Leopolda exhibition centre, the site lies between a residential area and the Cascine park, Florence's largest public park. This will allow the site to be de-artificialised and new public spaces and green areas to be created, while preserving the identity of the site and a remarkable building.
The redevelopment will include residential property, a hotel and shops.
